Michael DeVault is a writer living and working in Monroe, Louisiana. He has published four novels, including 2010's The Patriot Joe Morton, which was first runner up for the Faulkner Gold Medal in Novella. Michael is a graduate of the University of Louisiana-Monroe and holds a B.A. in English. While at ULM he competed on a nationally recognized speech and debate squad, served as copy editor for the campus newspaper, and sang in the University Choir.
When he is not studying, Michael is a contributing writer to BayouLife Magazine, where he covers topics ranging from the outdoors to a visit by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He is an award-winning journalist and served at virtually every level of the media business in his native Louisiana, including stints as editor of The Ouachita Citizen, news editor at The Franklin Sun, and editor-in-chief of Bayou Outdoors Magazine. After completing his studies at Lindenwood University, Michael anticipates pursuing a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition with a focus on the rhetoric of science. Ultimately, Michael hopes to spend time teaching writing in all its forms at the university level.
